Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

As a Senior Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, I bring over 12 years of dedicated experience to my practice, specialising in the effective treatment of anxiety, stress, and depression. My expertise extends to addressing various challenges, including phobias, panic attacks, and undesirable behaviours such as drinking, smoking, drug use, and eating issues, with a specific focus on weight loss. For further details on the range of conditions I address, please refer to the Conditions section in the menu on my website.

Established in 2011, my business has flourished, providing therapeutic services not only at the Blackwood Wellbeing Centre but also through online platforms like Zoom or WhatsApp video, catering to the diverse preferences of my clients. Drawing from a rich background as a former Mental Health Nurse and Professional Social Worker, I have garnered extensive experience working with individuals of all ages. This wealth of knowledge informs and enriches my practice, ensuring a holistic and empathetic approach to the diverse needs of my clients.

Beyond my professional qualifications, I hold an Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Bristol, acquired in 1999. This educational background provides me with a nuanced understanding of how early life experiences shape our later years. Combining this knowledge with my Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy training, I offer a distinctive and personally tailored therapeutic experience for each client.

To maintain a client-focused environment, all appointments are strictly by prior arrangement, preventing any disruption to ongoing hypnotherapy sessions. It is important to note that cancellation charges apply without adequate notice, a policy that is further explained during the Initial Consultation. Your well-being is my priority, and I am dedicated to providing a supportive and effective therapeutic journey for each individual I work with.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy induces a profound state of relaxation, facilitating heightened receptivity to suggestions. In this relaxed state, the therapist skilfully guides the client to access their subconscious mind, the realm where unconscious behaviour patterns and instinctive reactions originate. Through the strategic use of positive suggestions and visualisation techniques, the therapist directs attention to the specific thoughts and behaviours the client seeks to transform while maintaining a serene and relaxed mental state. The focus then shifts towards cultivating novel and positive ways of responding to stress, ultimately fostering constructive changes in behaviour and reactions.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy revolves around envisioning how clients aspire to feel and how they desire their lives to unfold. Often, individuals seek this approach after enduring years of negative behavioural patterns and thought processes. Rather than fixating on the issue at hand, the focus shifts to potential positive outcomes resulting from change—the desired emotional states. Collaboratively working to shift from entrenched old behaviour patterns to newer, more positive ones, clients begin to feel better equipped to navigate life’s challenges. Emphasising solutions, our approach directs attention to the possibilities that arise with change, propelling clients toward positive transformations, often yielding remarkable results. As we reshape thought patterns, emotions evolve, triggering changes in behavior and reinforcing the ensuing positive feelings.

Contrary to being an arduous process, our sessions are designed to be uplifting. There is no need to continually revisit the past to progress; instead, we concentrate on the present and future. Each session is crafted to leave you with a sense of brightness and lightness compared to when you initially arrived. How it Works

Hypnotherapy provides a gateway for therapists to access your subconscious mind, utilising the power of suggestion to facilitate positive and beneficial changes. Through the delivery of relevant and constructive suggestions, the therapist aims to assist you in achieving the desired transformations. Despite not inducing actual sleep (as you maintain awareness and control), the deep state of relaxation attained during hypnotherapy allows for the full assistance of your imagination, all while being gently guided through the treatment session.

Establishing a sense of complete comfort with your hypnotherapist is crucial. The Initial Consultation, which comes with no obligation, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that you feel at ease with the therapeutic process before committing to subsequent sessions. Hypnosis, characterised as a unique state of consciousness distinct from wakefulness or sleep, is often likened to a deep, relaxed daydreaming experience.

Recognised for thousands of years, altered states of awareness, such as hypnosis, are widely acknowledged as beneficial for unlocking inner potential in psychological therapy. In the therapeutic journey, hypnotherapy may unveil past issues causing distress, fostering understanding of their connection to present challenges and enabling forward progress. Beyond emotional concerns, hypnotherapy is generally effective in addressing various physical problems like IBS, pain, and insomnia.

Hypnotherapists frequently integrate hypnosis with other psychotherapy and counselling techniques tailored to individual needs. The selection of techniques depends on the specific issue for which the individual seeks assistance, showcasing the versatility of hypnotherapy as a holistic approach to fostering positive change.

For this reason, it’s imperative that you feel completely comfortable with your hypnotherapist.  Your no obligation Initial Consultation is key to ensuring that you feel at ease with me and understand the process before committing to treatment sessions.

Hypnosis is a different state of consciousness from being awake or asleep, and many people compare the deep, relaxed state of hypnosis to daydreaming.

Altered states of awareness have been recognised for thousands of years and hypnosis is widely accepted as a beneficial psychological therapy to access our inner potential. Therapy will often help to reveal issues from your past that may be causing you distress, enabling you to move forward by understanding the connection to your present problems. Hypnotherapy can generally help with most emotional problems you may be trying hard to cope with. Some physical problems can also be effectively treated with hypnosis too, such as IBS, pain and insomnia.

Hypnotherapists will often combine hypnosis with other psychotherapy and counselling techniques to benefit individuals. The techniques used will depend on the issue the individual is seeking help for.

FAQs

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis induces a profound state of relaxation that harmonises the conscious and subconscious mind, creating a trance state guided by the therapist through the soothing cadence of their voice. Unlike sleep, this trance is a natural and relaxed condition akin to those experienced when listening to music, watching television, or engaging in routine activities. Clients discover that their bodies and minds unwind, resulting in a serene and pleasurable experience.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a voluntary process, and no one can be hypnotised against their will. However, if you are open to making positive changes, the potential for transformation exists! You will only internalise suggestions that align with your desires, and anything irrelevant to you will be naturally disregarded. Your subconscious mind inherently understands your wants and what is beneficial for you. Importantly, you cannot be compelled to express, think, or act in ways contrary to your own will.

What if I can’t relax?

Despite the initial apprehension, clients typically discover a pleasant state of relaxation, often evident even after the initial session. There is no prescribed “right” or “wrong” way to experience it. You are not required to remain perfectly still; feel free to scratch your nose, cough, or make any necessary adjustments. However, many individuals find that they naturally relax and lie calmly throughout the session. Regardless of your preferred way, the ultimate outcome is always beneficial.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required is tailored to each individual client’s specific needs, and there is no predetermined set of sessions. Typically, clients attend between 6 and 12 sessions, a topic discussed during the Initial Consultation. Progress is regularly reviewed at each session, with clients being the best judge of their own well-being. Each session is allotted up to an hour.

Appointments can be scheduled on a week-by-week basis or through a package purchase. Many clients opt for the package, saving money and committing to regular weekly sessions, reflecting their determination to experience improvement within a relatively short timeframe. Booking in advance not only secures a regular appointment slot but also helps reduce waiting lists, ensuring priority for treatment sessions over sporadic weekly bookings.
